Scheduling Lessons

Lesson times are scheduled at the mutual agreement of teacher and client, subject to the availability of open lesson times. Please be on time for your lesson. If you are late for your lesson, we will still end at the scheduled time.

Make up lessons

Make up lessons will be given at no additional charge, provided that 24 hour advance notice is given that a lesson will be missed. If less notice than that is given, provision of a make up lesson will only be done at the discretion of the teacher and only with an acceptable excuse from the client (e.g. medical emergency or illness). All make ups are to be completed within a 3 month period (semester) in which the lesson occurred; i.e. there is no continuing obligation on the part of the teacher. Make up lessons will be given only at times and dates within the teacher’s normal teaching schedule or can be arranged at any mutually agreeable time. The lesson is considered to have been given if the student misses the make up lesson for any reason. Make up lessons are limited to one in any given semester; they may not be “carried over” from one semester to another. There are no refunds for missed lessons.

If I am gone for some reason I will do make up lessons at a mutually agreeable time. Lessons will not occur and students will not be charged for major holidays including: Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve and Day, New Years Eve and Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, and the 4th of July.

Lesson Cancellation

A student who wishes to withdraw must give the teacher two weeks prior notice in writing. All students will be billed and are required to pay for these final two lessons. Calling the teacher is not an acceptable withdrawal notice. If all tuition payments are up to date and the two week notice of withdrawal has been received, the student will receive a refund if any is due.

Payment Methods

  • $25 for 30 minute lesson

    • $100 for a 4 week month
    • $125 for a 5 week month
  • $50 for 60 minute lesson

    • $200 for a 4 week month
    • $225 for a 5 week month

Monthly billing – Acceptable payment times

The bill for the month is due at the first lesson of the month. If the monthly payment still has not been paid by the second lesson a $10 late fee is added each week until the end of the month. If no payment is received then lessons are terminated.

Additional charges

Piano students will need books, which I can purchase for them but will need to be reimbursed. This is an additional cost to the scheduled lesson bill. All students are welcome and encouraged to bring in music they wish to work on.

Behavior at Studio

  • No food, drink, or candy is allowed to be brought into the studio (this includes gum)
  • During the lesson students are expected to be respectful of the teacher and the teacher’s property. Damage to property or uncooperative behavior may lead to discontinued lessons.
  • Parents are encouraged to sit in on lessons, especially for younger students. However this is not required.

Practice

Without regular practice at home, the students will end up practicing during their lessons, rather than refining their skills and learning new skills. Practice is NOT about playing through their piece once or twice. It should involve stopping to work on notes or rhythms they keep missing. Practice skills are taught in the lessons, and students should utilize these skills at home. Younger students need parental help in finding time to practice and knowing how to practice. As students mature, they should be able to take on the responsibility of practicing daily and correctly.

Suggested daily practice time:

  • 5-8 years old – 15 min. a day
  • 9-11 years old – 25 min. a day
  • 12-15 years old – 35 min. a day
  • 16 and older – 45 min. a day

Recitals

Recitals are great times for the student to show how much they are progressing and give them the experience of performing for others. It is an invaluable experience and is strongly suggested but is not required. Recitals will take place twice a year, a spring and winter recital.
